Why did I decide to do this?
Warren is an adorable town that is about 8.6 square miles, she is a modest town, but full of amazing talented artists, painters, potters, weavers, musicians, woodworkers, authors, chefs and so much history!! Walk down any street and you will find lots of friendly people and happy dogs! Aside from our fabulous bike path (former railroad tracks) Warren has a deep, rich history in maritime trades and manufacturing! Her story needs to be shared and what better way to do so than on an antique boat built and refitted here in Warren! I promise that just a little time out on the water will make you feel not only more connected to this little town, but really happy too!
I love researching the history and have a collection of wonderful maritime books that are available for research use at our memorial reference library located in our corporate office. I am always searching for Warren related books and hope to continue to grow the collection!
I grew up on boats here in RI, my Dad loved to fish big game, tuna and swordfish…when he was offshore fishing we would spend our summer weekends at our beach property in Portsmouth where I would snorkel for hours and hours pretending to be on a scientific exploration with Jacques Cousteau looking at marine life! I have owned many boats, all under 30’ and have had friends with bigger boats (the best kind!). I learned quickly that small boats are way better! You don’t need to bring half of the neighborhood to help you run it! Spending a little bit of time on the water is so good for your soul and yes can be addictive, but the point is to just get out there!
That is why I started WRC, many newcomers and visitors have asked if there was a way to get out on the River, and there hadn’t been….it is my hope that sharing a little bit about this fabulous town from its waterway, will encourage you to slow down while you visit, take a good look around, you will find there are many little surprises in Warren and you may just want to stay!
